Tears Into Laughter
“Happy are those who are strong in the Lord, who set their minds on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem. When they walk through the valley of weeping, it will become a place of refreshing springs, where pools of blessing collect after the rains.” Psalm 84:5-6
The Psalmist basically said, “God’s got you on a journey, and you’re headed toward your destiny. But along the way, you’re eventually going to go through the Valley of Tears.”
You’re going to have seasons when you weep. But here’s the catch. You don’t have to stay there. Some Christians make a career out of being sad and depressed. They’re always down and defeated. Unfortunately, they have become comfortable during this season of sadness. But God wants you to “walk through” this valley. You don’t stay there, you press forward.
Maybe you’re in the valley of tears because you’re going through a divorce or have recently lost a precious loved one. Maybe you’re crying tears over how one of your children lives. But God wants you to keep going!
In Luke the 17th chapter, Jesus said, “Whosoever, if you have faith of the grain of a mustard seed, if you will say to the mulberry tree be plucked up, it’ll obey your voice.” The mulberry tree in the Jewish mind was the “weeping tree.” In other words, your faith can pluck up the weeping tree in your life. You’ve been crying over the past. You’ve been down over how things turned out, and you never dreamed you would be where you are right now. But there comes a point where God wants to come into that valley of tears and pluck up the weeping tree.
The Bible says that Abraham dug a well. Life came, and water was there. But then the Philistines came and plugged up the well. When you get saved, at first, everything’s wonderful. But then maybe some traumatic experience hits your life, and it just fills up your well, and you no longer have the joy bubbling up like a spring inside of you.
Abraham re-dug the well. God later brought to Abraham Isaac, which means joy! Abraham’s wife, Sarah, did not think it was possible. She even laughed about the news when she heard she would have a baby at her age. But God proved Himself faithful to do the impossible.
You may not think you can come out of your sadness, but God can bring you out. Nothing is too hard for Him. A brighter day is coming! A better day is coming in your future! Dry your tears and wash your face. It’s time to live again!
