Love Conquers All: Love Conquers Fear

FEBRUARY 12, 2022

There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.
1 John 4:18

Children find it easy to trust. When a child experiences fear, the assurance of a loving parent is enough to bring them peace. The child doesn’t know how the parent can defeat the “monsters under the bed,” the raging thunder and lightning, or the uncertainty of a first day of school. They just know that, if their parent assures them, they are safe.

Jesus suggested we would do well to emulate the faith of children (Matthew 18:3). When we rest in the assurance of God’s love and protection, we will find our fear subsiding. But it’s a process, with us as it is with children. The apostle John wrote that “perfect love casts out fear.” If we find ourselves in fear, then we have not yet matured fully in our understanding of God’s love. There is a correlation between our sense of security and the depth of our understanding of God’s love.

When you experience fear or insecurity, meditate on Ephesians 3:17-19. Contemplate “the width and length and depth and height” of “the love of Christ.”

A Christian with faith has nothing to fear from the facts.
