Those who sow in tears shall reap in joy and singing.— Psalm 126:5 (AMPC)

For many of us, forgiving someone who has hurt us is the most difficult part of emotional healing. It can even be the stumbling block that prevents it. Those who have been badly wounded by others know that it is much easier to say the word forgive than it is to do it.

First, let me say that it is not possible to have good emotional health while harboring bitterness, resentment, and unforgiveness toward someone. It’s poison to your system. And it is impossible to get better if it’s there.

When I finally allowed the Lord to begin to work in my life, He revealed to me I had been hiding behind these roadblocks—the painful events and situations of my past. To pass back through the same, or similar, avenues and to be delivered and healed meant facing the issues, people, and truths I found so difficult, if not impossible, to face on my own.

Don’t be afraid of the pain of healing. The temptation is to run away, but the Lord is close to you, and He wants to bring you through your problems. Going through is always better than running from a thing. Endure whatever you need to, knowing that there is joy on the other side.

Prayer Starter: Father, help me to forgive everyone who has hurt me. Please don’t let unforgiveness become a hindrance to my spiritual growth. Thank You.
