REMAINING VICTORIOUS IN THE MIDST OF PERSECUTION AND TRIALS

Philemon 1:1-3, 23-25 (GNB)

From Paul, a prisoner for the sake of Christ Jesus, and from our brother Timothy — To our friend and fellow worker Philemon, and the church that meets in your house, and our sister Apphia, and our fellow soldier Archippus: May God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give you grace and peace. *Epaphras, who is in prison with me for the sake of Christ Jesus, sends you his greetings, and so do my co-workers Mark, Aristarchus, Demas, and Luke. May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.

The victory we have in Christ is so powerful that when we are conscious of it, we will be able to maintain our victorious attitude even in the midst of trials and persecution.
When you read the books of Philippians, Ephesians, Colossians and Philemon, does Apostle Paul sound like someone who is in prison? Yet he was while writing those letters. He was not in prison for committing any crime, he was in prison for the sake of preaching the Gospel of Christ. We must never confuse suffering for our wrong doing as persecution for our faith and we must never allow persecution for our faith to discourage us. “If you suffer, it must not be because you are a murderer or a thief or a criminal or a meddler in other people’s affairs. However, if you suffer because you are
a Christian, don’t be ashamed of it, but thank God that you bear Christ’s name.”(1Peter 4:15-16) (GNB).

Jesus showed us by His example that it is possible to suffer for doing the right thing. “God will bless you for this, if you endure the pain of undeserved suffering because you are conscious of his will. For what credit is there if you endure the beatings you deserve for having done wrong? But if you endure suffering even when you have done right, God will bless you for it.
