THE ACT OF SUBMISSION

“Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.”

-EPHESIANS 5:22-

If you battle with a superiority complex as a Minister’s wife: battling over who should have the last say, being right at all times, or having your way in all things, then check it. Your submissiveness is questionable and God’s Word concerning this issue has not really gained entrance into your heart.

How is this possible? You might say. I pray for long hours, preach the Word, minister during church service and even hold marriage counseling sessions! But God’s Word cannot be broken. Though He sees you and your husband as equal before Him and having the same right-standing, He has commanded you, even as a minister’s wife, to be submissive to the authority of your husband.

This does not mean you cannot suggest better ways of doing things to him or communicate cordially with him, but you should treat him with respect just as you demonstrate your respect to Christ. This obviously starts from the heart. Submission is the key to locking the door of your effectiveness as a minister’s wife, and this should be in thoughts, words, and actions.

You need to check the state of your thoughts towards him if they are pure and edifying. The choice and presentation of your words also have to reflect that you are submissive to him. Learn to speak right, respectfully, and graciously, even when you might strongly disagree with a few of his actions. Also, you must back it up with actions by obeying without confrontation.

As you do these, I see your marriage and ministry growing effectively and impacting rightly those attached to you. You will not fail God!
