TOPIC: Signs Are Limited [Open Heaven for Teens 4 April 2022]

MEMORISE: (For we walk by faith, not by sight:) 2 Corinthians 5:7

READ: Matthew 7:21-23

  1. Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
  2. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
  3. And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Luke 9:37-62, Judges 12-14

MESSAGE:

As instrumental as signs and wonders are to Church growth, they have their limitations. They are primarily meant for unbelievers to see the power of God and come to the light. They are not the ultimate for a believer who has been called to a life of faith. To an unbeliever, seeing is believing but to a Christian, believing comes before the seeing (desired results).

You must be careful not to be so focused on miracles, signs and wonders that you miss out on having a great relationship with God for who He is. Also, it is not the miracles performed through you on earth that will qualify you for Heaven. In actual fact, there are many false pastors today performing magic and leading unsuspecting members into destruction. Todays Bible reading also establishes that because someone performs miracles doesn’t mean he/she is recognized by God. What will determine your eternity in Heaven is how well you please God in your words, actions, thoughts and relationship with people.

ACTION POINT:

Seek God wholeheartedly and the signs will follow you.

HYMN: Nearer, My God

  1. Nearer, My God to Thee
    Nearer, my God to Thee,
    Nearer to Thee;
    E’en though it be a cross
    That raiseth me,
    Still all my song shall be,
    Nearer, my God, to Thee,(2ce)
    Nearer to Thee!
  2. Though, like the wanderer,
    The sun gone down,
    Darkness be over me,
    My rest a stone,
    Yet in my dreams I’d be
    Nearer, my God, to Thee,(2ce)
    Nearer to Thee
  3. There let the way appear
    Steps unto heaven;
    All that Thou send’st to me
    In mercy given;
    Angels to beckon me
    Nearer, my God, to Thee,(2ce)
    Nearer to Thee
  4. Then with my waking thoughts
    Bright with thy praise,
    Out of my stony grief
    Bethel I’ll raise;
    So by my woes to be
    Nearer, my God to thee,(2ce)
    Nearer to Thee!
  5. Or if on joyful wing
    Cleaving thy sky,
    Sun, moon, and stars forgot,
    Upwards I fly
    Still all my songs shall be,
    Nearer my God to thee,(2ce)
    Nearer to Thee!
