FINANCIAL INDEPENDENCE

“Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.”

-PHILIPPIANS 4:11-

I have always loved to be free from depending on any man, to get things done. It can be most frustrating, especially when you have taken that person as your only solution or last resort. Being financially independent is one aspect of your life that you would forever cherish and love when you have it under control; and that is why it is an important topic to discuss, especially in this age and time, where people are getting lazier by the day and prices of commodities are steadily increasing.

Your financial relevance and increase have a lot to do with your ability to engage in profitable ventures. To make a difference as a single, you must work to make a living. Your hands must be working hands. Remember the description of the virtuous woman in Proverbs 31? She was always working and never dependent. As such, her husband and children could call her blessed because her labour spoke for her.

Asides from working, you should also invest where you can, and learn to save. You can invest in shares, buy stocks, and engage in profitable businesses. Also, you have often heard people say “Don’t despise the days of little beginnings.” How true it is! You can always start whatever will bring you profit from where you are or with the little you might have. That seemingly little thing should be seen as a seed that when sown, will bring a bountiful harvest. So, don’t look down on it!

If you are thinking of when to start, now is the time to build and protect your financial future. It’s never late to be right. Personal finance, amongst other things, has been proved to enhance self-esteem and worth, which is one major area of concern for singles. It’s unhealthy to rely on anyone financially, because those you may be depending on also have their responsibilities to cater to, and may even see you as a liability someday. Therefore, why lean uncomfortably on someone when you can have others lean on you.
