TOPIC: The fruits of righteousness

TEXT: Isaiah 61 :3, Ephesians 5:9 (NLT), Philippians 1:11

KEY VERSE: Philippians 1:11 -“Being filled with the fruits of righteouSness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.”

INTRODUCTION: As believers, we are called to bear the fruits of righteousness in our
lives. These fruits are not the result of our efforts to be holy, but they flow naturally
from the righteousness imparted to us by God through Jesus Christ. In this study, we will explore the biblical concept of the fruits of righteousness and how they manifest in the lives of believers.

STUDY:

  1. Imputed and Imparted Righteousness:
  • Isaiah 61:3 -“To … give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.” Discuss this verse with your class.
  • Ephesians 5:9 (NLT) – “For this light within you produces only what is good and right and true. Discuss this verse with your class.
-God not only impute righteousness to us through Christ, but He also imparts His righteous nature to us which empowers us to live righteously and produce the fruits of righteousness.
  1. Living Out Holiness:
  • Philippians 1:11 -“Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by
Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.” What do you understand by this?
  • As recipients of God’s righteousness, we are empowered to live holy lives. Our consciousness of God’s righteousness in us leads to righteous living and the
production of fruits that glorify God.
  1. Fruits of Righteousness:
-2 Corinthians 9:10- “Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness.” What does this mean?
  • Mention the fruits of righteousness according to Galatians 5:22-23.

CONCLUSION:
As believers, we are called to bear the truits of righteoUsness, which are produced by Jesus Christ within us. Let us continually
grow in our understanding of God’s righteousness and allow it to transform us into vessels that bear abundant fruit for His kingdom.
