uncommon favour from Him.

DATE:13TH OCTOBER, 2024

HYMN: S. S. & S 319. What a friend we have.
TOPIC: FOCUS ON CHRIST FOR UNCOMMON FAVOUR

TEXT: Lk.2:52; 5:1-11; Gen.26:1-6.

INTRODUCTION:
After salvation by grace, the child of God enters a relationship with God on a Father-son-basis.
Consequent upon this, our loving Father gives us all good things that
pertain to life and godliness. He
implements His good thoughts for us to give us an expected end.
Therefore, as long as the believer focuses on Christ, he is a candidate of God’s uncommon
favour. These acts of uncommon favour mark the believer out from the rest of the population. It is the thrust of this lesson therefore to remind us of the uncommon favour from God, we have in Christ Jesus.

LESSON OBJECTIVES:
This lesson is intended to accomplish the following objectives:-

  1. explain the meaning of “Focus on Christ” and “uncommon favour”:
  2. identify the source of uncommon favour:
  3. identify some manifestations of uncommon favour; and
  4. discuss how the believer can sustain the uncommon favour he/she enjoys from God.

BIBLE TRUTH:
Q1. HOW CAN WE EXPLAIN THE FOLLOWING CONCEPTS ?
(a) Focus on Christ: Simply put, this is paying attention to Him and His word as well as directing one’s attention to Him. It means
following the lifestyle, principles
and character of Christ our Saviour. He is the author and finisher of our faith.
(b). Uncommon favour:
Literally favour denotes giving
help or advantages to someone.
God grants this type of favour to
everyone irrespective of tribe or
tongue, believer and unbeliever
(Matt.5:43-48). He extends this
favour to even the birds of the air,
the lilies of the valleys and other
elements of creation. When we,
however qualify this favour with
the word “uncommon” it goes
beyond the general benevolence
of God. Uncommon favour is a
rarity reserved or God’s people
who live and walk with God.
Examples abound in Seriptures
-Enoch, Noah, Joseph, the Israelites in the wilderness who ate heaven-baked food, e.t.c

Q2. WHO IS THE SOURCE OF UNCOMMON FAVOUR ?
God Almighty, the author of creation, who is sovereign and benevolent. It is His sole prerogative to show His
uncommon favour to whomsoever He wishes (Gen.48:13-19).

Q3. HOW DOES THE UNCOMMON FAVOUR OF GOD MANIFEST IN THE LIVES OF BELIEVERS ?

  • Divine healing and Divine health. Favour of God is made evident in the area of our health. (John.5:2-9: Lk4:27: Isa.53:5).
Divine health is the will of God for us. One of the benefits of the
cross is divine heealing “.by His stripes, we are healed'”
Thus, one of our sonship rights is divine healing and divine health. Believers who appropriate this work of grace into their lives will enjoy divine health and healing.
  • Divine provision. (Lk.5:1-7).
The earth is the Lord’s and it’s
fullness (Ps.24:l). It is the will of God that we prosper and be in
    health as our soul prospers
    (3John.vs2). Therefore, we are
not permnitted to have a poverty
    mentality. He will continue to
    prosper the legitimate labours of
our hands to His glory. He who
prospered Isaac to the envy of his ungodly neighbours will surely provide for us when we come to Him in faith.
    In Marital life. (Prov. 18:22).
    God established the mariage
Institution right from creation for the mutual benefit of the Partners involved, for Procreation and for societal stability. This is why God,
    bestows uncommon favour upon
    couples who properly enter into
    this institution.
    ” Mental Capacity (Dan.2:20-
22; James. 1:5). God is the
author of wisdom and knowledge. To remain “above only” in our life’s pursuits the child of God should ask God for this uncommon favour in faith and He will liberally give to him.
Works of our hands (Ps.90:17; Gen.26:1-6;Eph.4:28). Believers should be diligent with what their hands find to do. Work is the point of contact for God’s super abundant release of His blessing. The believer should aim at excellence and avoid mediocrity.

Q4. USING THE FOLLOWING POINTS , DISCUSS HOW THE
BELIEVER CAN SUSTAIN THE UNCOMMON FAVOUR HE/SHE ENJOYS FROM GOD ?
Like our salvation which can be lost by careless living and outright return to our old sinful life, the uncommon favour of God we enjoy can also be lost. To avert this, we should put some measures in place to sustain it in our lives. This can be done through:-
A. Steadfast walk with God (Deut.8: 18-19; 1Cor. 15:58).
Believers should remain firm and unchanging in their faith. This is one sure way to continue to enjoy God’s boundless favour in all areas of life.
B. Living a life of praise
thanksgiving (1Thess.5: 18;
Phil.4:6:; Ps.145:2). Continued
show of praises and thanksgiving unto God in all circumstances of life is a powerful avenue for enjoying His boundless favour. The
aroma of praises attracts divine
attention because we are giving
Him what He rightfully deserves.
C. Prayers (Dan.10:12-13; James.5:16). Prayer is the major avenue through which we solicit uncommon favour from God. Our heavenly Father is faithful and committed to fulfilling His promises.
Through prayer and supplication
with thanksgiving let us present
our needs before Him.
D. Having Faith and Trust in God (Mk.9:23; ll:22-23; Lk.8:43-48). The efficacy of our prayers Is detemined by the measure of faith with which the prayer is made. Apostle James instructs that we should pray in faith (Jam. l:6). The womnan with the issue of blood for 12 years attracted uncommon favour when she trusted that she would be healed by just touching the helm ofJesus’ garment.
E. Sowing favour (Matt.5:7; Est.2:21-23; 6:1-
The act of sowing and reaping remains an eternal principle which the believer should practice in order to be blessed. It is what we sow, we reap; therefore, let us show favour to our neighbours.
(Eccl. 11:1-6).
E. Giving: Prov.21:13; Ps.41:1-
As a principle, we give to receive. We should give as led by the Holy Spirit as a matter of habit.
G. Positive confession. (Prov. 18:21). Positive confession is key to attracting uncommon favour from God. We should learn to declare the word of God to every ugly situation of our lives. It is what we say to a situation that God acts upon.
H. Being kingdom focused.
(Matt.6:33). As long as a believer values what God values and delights in the Lord, he/she will continue to enjoy uncommon favour from God.

DAILY L IVING APPLICATION:
The uncommon favour of God makes all the difference between failure and success in Iife. As soon as Peter received Jesus’ instruction to cast his net into the sea. favour followed. If you are encountering frustrations in life, hold on to God’s Word. Allow the light of the word to shine. Receive His Instructions, obey them, and
God will give you an amazing turn around. If it happened with Peter and Isaac. it will happen to you.

MEMORY VERSE:
1Cor.15:58.
“Therefore my beloved brethren,
be ye steadfast, unmoveable,
always abounding in the work of
the Lord, for as much as ye know
that your labour is not in vain in
the Lord
