TOPIC: FOCUS ON CHRIST FOR EFFECTIVE SOUL WINNING AND DISCIPLESHIP

TEXT:2Cor. 5:17-21: Matt. 28:18-20.

INTRODUCTION:

The preaching of the Gospel is simply the proclamation of the good news about the suffering, death, burial, resurrection and ascension of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. The Epistles make it very clear to us that God’s only medium (power) of saving
and transforming the sinner is through the preaching and teaching of the gospel of the grace of God in
Salvation. (Romans 1:16-17). Necessity is therefore laid on every child of God to first learn and understand the message of the gospel for spiritual growth, and get
fully involved in the activity of spreading the gospel for all around the world to believe.

LESSON OBJECTIVES:
The objectives of this lesson are to:
l. explain what it neans to focus on Christ.:

  1. understand the message of the Gospel of salvation.:
  2. Know who is qualified to preach the Gospel; and
4 explain the call to soul winning and discipleship.

BIBLE TRUTH:
O1. (a). WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO FOCUS ON CHRIST ? (Heb.12:1-2; 2Cor.4:6)
In the context of Soul Winningvand Discipleship, to focus on Christ is to preach His salvation realities which are received through faith alone. We must like Apostle Paul yearn and strive not to preach any other message or be carried away or consumed by anything else, except Jesus and Him crucified for all men to be saved.

Q1.(b). WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO WIN SOULS?
To win souls is to be actively involved in the ministry of reconciliation which is given to every child of God; by the act of preaching the Gospel to sinners for them to believe and be saved. This qualifies them for eternal life found only in Jesus Christ.
(John.3:16-18) God has sent all
believers into the harvest field who must harvest fruit for Him.(2Cor.5: 18, 19)

(c)WHAT IS DISCIPLESHIP?
(2Tim. 2:2; Acts 20:32; 1 Peter
2:2;Colossians 2:6-7)
It is instructive to note that the term, “disciple” means a pupil, a student or a learner. Christian discipleship is the process of learning to love and follow Jesus and becoming more like Him in
our attitude and actions. Discipleship involves a mentor and a mentee. The act of discipleship therefore involves making out of every believer or child of God, firstly a student, before becoming a teacher of the Gospel. This is what Apostle Paul meant in 2Tim 2:2 when he said: “And the
[instructions] which you have
heard from me along with many
witnesses transmit and entrust
[as a deposit] to reliable and a
faithful men who will be competent and qualified to teach others also”.

Q2. WHAT ARE THE TOOLS FOR
EFFECTIVE SOUL WINNING AND
DISCIPLESHIP ? (Luke 4:18-19: Matt. 4:23; Luke 5:16; Act 3:1-12; Matt.9:36; 15:32)
From the Scriptures above, some of the points that make for effective Soul wining and discipleship are
I. Preaching and teaching the undiluted word of God.
ii. Praying and supplicating for all men/souls.
iii. Healing the sick/working of miracles.
iv. Casting out demons and setting the oppressed free.
V. Showing love and compassion with material gifts/moral support.
vi. Love inspired mentorship, fellowship and follow up.

Q3. (a) WHO CAN WIN SOULS FOR CHRIST?
Isaiah 52:7 described a soul winner in this manner: “How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who
proclaimn salvation, who say to Zion, “Your God reigns!”
Paul in Romans said “How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?
And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”(Romans 10:14-15).
Jesus in Matthew 20:19 gave a
command and said: “GO YE therefore, and teach all nations.. “
The call to soul winning is a call to every believer to imitate Jesus and the Apostles in filling the earth with the knowledge of the glory of God’s salvation as the waters covers the seas. It is expected ofevery child of God to fulfill this ministry of
reconciliation.

Q(3B) WHẤT ASSURANCE DOES MATT.28:20 GIVE IN RESPECTOF SOUL WINNING AND DISCIPLESHIP?
The Amplified Classic version of
Matthew 28:20 gives a very clear
understanding of what Jesus means by “I am with you always”. It reads:
Teaching them to observe everything that I have commanded you, and behold, I am with you all the days
(perpetually, uniformly, and on every occasion), to the [very] close and consummation of the age. Amen (so let it be).”
The message of hope and
assurance are:
I. The Presence of Jesus is with us always through the Holy Spirit that lives in and around us. There is no moment He will ever abandon us in the course of soul winning and other of our life endeavors.
ii. Just the same way the Father-God worked in Jesus and the Apostles He is with us in the same measure to spread the good-news of His salvation all around the world.
iii. We have nothing to fear, we have been fully equipped to win our world for Christ Jesus.

DAI LY LIVING APPLICATION:

Our Lord Jesus poured out His life in service of the Father’s will and purpose which is to bring many sons unto glory through the death on the cross. We as children of God have been made partakers of the life of God through Faith in the Gospel. Our
lives now belong to God, and we
should focus on the love of God
demonstrated in the sacrifice of
redemption for us, and in response always honor the clarion call to each and every one of us to spread the message of salvation in Christ Jesus
through Oral Preaching.
Television and radio programs, social medial podcasts,, printing of articles and gospel materials. We should take advantage of every innovation in technology for effective soul winning and discipleship.

MEMORY VERSE:

2 Cor.5:18-19 [18]And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to Himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation: [19]To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the wvorld unto Himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.
