THE GRACE AND BLESSINGS OF SUBMISSION TO AUTHORITY

1SAMUEL 17:17-18, 20 (GNB) One day Jesse said to David, “Take a half-bushel of this roasted grain and these ten loaves of bread, and hurry with them to your brothers in the camp. …Find out how your brothers are getting along and bring back something to show that you saw them and that they are well. *David got up early the next morning, … and went as Jesse had told him to….

One of the reasons why God has set various leaders and authorities over us is to train and prepare us for the increase and promotion that He wants to bring us into. Because it is God who has set those leaders and authorities over you God’s hand is upon them and every time you honour and submit to them you are humbling yourself under the mighty hand of God and He will exalt (increase and promote) you in due time, (1Pet.5:6).

God sets leaders over us in our homes, our schools, our offices or business places, in the church and in the government, (Rom.13:1-7).
David was submitted to the authority of his father. He remained faithful in taking care of his father’s sheep and he went the extra mile to kill a lion and a bear to save a sheep, (1 Sam.17:34-35). When his father sent him to greet his brothers and give them food, David willingly went. David was also very submitted to Saul the King, even when Saul was out to kill him. He kept on honouring Saul and he refused to say or do anything against Saul even when he had the opportunity to, (1Sam.26:1-11). David kept on referring to Saul as the Lord’s anointed and despite all Saul did to David, when David heard of Saul’s death he tore his clothes, he mourned, he wept and he fasted, (2Sam.1:1-12).

PRAYER:

DEAR FATHER, PLEASE FILL ME WITH YOUR GRACE AND WISDOM TO ALWAYS HONOUR AND SUBMIT TO THE AUTHORITIES YOU HAVE PLACED OVER ME.
