DIVERSE MANIFESTATIONS OF THE MERCIES OF GOD (2)

GENESIS 39:21-23 But the LORD was with Joseph, and shewed him mercy, and gave him favour in the sight of the keeper of the prison. And the keeper …committed to Joseph’s hand all the prisoners that were in the prison; and whatsoever they did there, he was the doer of it. The keeper …looked not to anything that was under his hand; because the LORD was with him, and that which he did, the LORD made it to prosper.

The Bible is full of so many examples of amazing manifestations of the mercy of God in the lives of people. In addition to that in our text above, one very striking one is what happened between David and Mephibosheth (2Sam. 9). In those days, when a new king came into power, the new king killed every member of the previous king’s family; especially the sons. This is why everyone in Saul’s household fled when they heard of King Saul’s death. During this departure, Mephibosheth fell from the hands of his nurse, broke his leg, and became lame. But David came to the house of Saul and asked if there were any of Saul’s descendants left, so he could show them kindness for Jonathan’s sake.

A servant of Saul said, “There is one, but he is lame in his feet.” Maybe he thought this would discourage David from having any dealings with him. David asked where he was and commanded that they fetch him. Mephibosheth must have been shocked beyond his wildest imagination. Instead of killing Mephibosheth as he may have feared when he arrived, David showed him unbelievable kindness. David commanded that all the lands of Saul his Grand Father, be cultivated, and the products brought to Mephibosheth. David also instructed that Mephibosheth sit and eat from his table continually. Because of Christ, you will experience the amazing mercy of God, more than this.

DEAR FATHER OF MERCIES, I THANK YOU FOR THE AMAZING LOVE AND KINDNESS YOU ARE SHOWING TO ME RIGHT NOW BECAUSE OF CHRIST.
