MAKE NO PROVISION FOR THE FLESH (2)

Romans 13:14 (NKJV, AMPC, CEV)

But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts.*But clothe yourself with the Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah), and make no provision for [indulging] the flesh [put a stop to thinking about the evil cravings of your physical nature] to [gratify its] desires (lusts). *Let the Lord Jesus Christ be as near to you as the clothes you wear. Then you won’t try to satisfy your selfish desires.

It is only as we renew our minds with what Christ has done for us and are conscious of the power of the Spirit that we will be able to make no provision for the flesh. It is as we make provision for the Spirit by putting on Christ that we would not make provision for the flesh, (Gal. 5:16). And it is only by the Spirit and our faith in Christ that we can make provision for the Spirit. The victory that overcomes the world is your faith in Christ, (1 John 5:4). We put on Christ by being conscious of our oneness with Him and His life in us. Just as we put on our clothes with our hands, we put on Christ with our mouths; by continually declaring our realities in Him.

Don’t feed the flesh and its evil desires; starve them to death. As you renew your mind by declaring that you are dead to sin and a new creation because of Christ, your desire and appetite for sin will abate. Guard your mind. Don’t be carnally minded; be spiritually minded, (Rom. 8:6). Have the mind of Christ. Don’t put your confidence in your flesh; put your confidence in Christ, (Phil. 3:3). Abstain from every appearance of evil, (1Thes. 5:22). Lay aside those weights (things that put pressure on you to sin). Avoid evil communications and influences, (1 Cor. 15:33). Avoid greed, bitterness, and staying angry for a long time, (Eph. 4:26-27). Keep growing by focusing on Christ, (2 Cor. 3:18).
