TOPIC: ABBA FATHER (2)

Galatians 4:4-7 (NLT) “But when the right time came, God sent his Son…to buy freedom for us who were slaves to the law, so that he could adopt us as his very own children. And because we are his children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, prompting us to call out, “Abba, Father.” Now you are no longer a slave but God’s own child. And since you are his child, God has made you his heir.”

The second reason we can truly call God our dear Father is because God has given us the same life and relationship with Him that Jesus has. Before Jesus came, the children of God had a relationship with God, but it was not a perfect one because it was based on the Law. This made them behave like slaves to God, (Gal. 4:1-3). Their relationship/right standing with God was based on their efforts and ability to obey God’s Laws of which they kept on breaking.

In The Living Bible, our text above says, “But when the right time came, the time God decided on, he sent his Son, born of a woman, born as a Jew, to buy freedom for us who were slaves to the law so that he could adopt us as his very own sons. And because we are his sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, so now we can rightly speak of God as our dear Father. Now we are no longer slaves but God’s own sons. And since we are his sons, everything he has belongs to us, for that is the way God planned.”

Due to their poor relationship with God, the people of the Old Testament could not walk in the fullness of God’s nature and provisions for them; but right now, we don’t relate with God as the Israelites did; we relate with God like Jesus does (as our dear Father).

Father, I thank you for giving me the same relationship with you that Jesus has. Thank you for your nature and provisions that I enjoy
