LET THE LOVE OF CHRIST CONTROL YOU

2Corinthians 5:14-15 (AMPC), John 21:16 (GNB)

…the love of Christ controls and urges and impels us, because we are of the opinion and conviction that [if] One died for all, then all died; And He died for all, so that all those who live might live no longer to and for themselves, but to and for Him Who died and was raised again for their sake. *…Jesus said…”Simon… do you love me?” “Yes, Lord,” he answered… Jesus said to him, “Take care of my sheep.”

The love of Christ needs to move from just being something we are conscious of and grateful for, to something that overwhelms and controls us all the time.

The love of Christ is the love of God that God showed us through Christ. The major way we grow in our consciousness and understanding of the love of God is by focusing on what Christ did for us on the Cross. “…God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us,” (Rom. 5:8, NIV). “For God was in Christ, restoring the world to himself, no longer counting men’s sins against them but blotting them out…” (2Cor. 5:19, LB).

As we grow in our understanding of what Christ did for us on the Cross, our lives are transformed. That love God showed us through Christ begins to control us and influence how we live our lives. We become sold out to God and we no longer live for ourselves, but for Him who loved us so much that He gave His life for us. It is the love of God that makes us truly fear (honour and reverence) Him. “If You, Lord, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand? But there is forgiveness with You, That You may be feared,” (Psa. 130:3-4, NKJV). We would not want to do anything to break His heart.

Prayer:
Father, I thank you for your great love for me. Open my eyes more to your love, and let your love overwhelm and control me.
