THE FAITH OF ABRAHAM

Galatians 3:8-9 (NLT), John 8:56
_the Scriptures looked forward to this time when God would make the Gentiles right in his sight because of their faith. God proclaimed this good news to Abraham long ago when he said, “All nations will be blessed through you.” So all who put their faith in Christ share the same blessing Abraham received because of his faith. Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad.

The real secret behind Abraham’s faith was the revelation of Christ. When the Bible says, “Abraham believed God and it was accounted to him for righteousness” (Gen. 15:6, Rom.4:3), what Abraham believed was what God told him about Christ. God did not declare Abraham righteous because Abraham believed that God said he would have a son.

The actual reason Abraham believed he would have a son, was because of the revelation of Christ. God told him that Christ would come from his lineage, and as God showed Abraham the redemption plan of Christ’s death, burial and resurrection, faith filled Abraham’s heart and his life was changed. As Jesus said in our last text above, Abraham saw His day (dispensation/era). The picture of Christ’s coming and the impact His redemption work on the cross would bring to the world became so vivid and real to him. Abraham’s heart was filled with joy. This is why Abraham believed that God can quicken (raise/give life to) the dead (Rom. 4:17). As he saw Christ dying and being raised back to life by God, he knew that God could raise the dead and that if God could raise the dead, God could raise both his body and Sarah’s womb which had been declared dead by man/the physical (Rom.4:19-20). Abraham was also willing to sacrifice Isaac to God because he knew that God could raise Isaac again (Heb. 11:17-19).

Prayer:
Father, I thank you for the great impact the revelation of Christ is having in my life. Faith in the supernatural is filling my heart.
