CONTROL WHAT YOU ALLOW TO INFLUENCE YOU

Prov. 25:28 (AMP & LB), 1Cor. 6:12 (AMP), Prov.4:23a (NIV)

*He who has no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down and without walls.
*A man without self-control is as defenseless as a city with broken-down walls.
*Everything is permissible for me, but not all things are beneficial. Everything is permissible for me, but I will not be enslaved by anything [and brought under its power, allowing it to control me].
Above all else, guard your heart…

There is always a constant battle between the devil and the Spirit of God for who will successfully influence our thoughts, words and actions, (Gal.5:17, LB). We are constantly faced with different kinds of people, information, and materials, seeking to get our attention and influence us either in the righteous ways of God or in the evil ways of the devil. We must therefore be very deliberate about what we give our attention to and what we allow to feed and influence our hearts. The devil is a master of craftiness and disguise. As such, we must be discerning and sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit at all times.

One of the times when we can be vulnerable to negative influences is when we feel sad and down. In such times, some people get drunk, or get ‘high’ on different substances, or yield to other desires of their flesh; instead of allowing the Holy Spirit to fill them, lift them and impart fresh wisdom and strength into them to overcome what they’re facing. David said, “When my heart is overwhelmed, lead me to the rock that is higher than I,” (Psa.61:2b). Do not allow the fact that you feel down to make you do something that will make your life go down the more, and cause you regret. Even when people hurt you, yield to the Spirit of God. By His Spirit, God wants us to overcome evil (attitudes of hate and wickedness) with good (attitudes of love and kindness), (Rom.12:21).

Prayer Focus:
Pray in the Spirit and thank God for the grace He has given you to guard your heart and yield yourself more to His Spirit.
