THESE PRACTICES WILL AID IN NURTURING THE SPIRIT WITHIN YOU

Ephesians 5:15-20 (NLT)

So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise. Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do. Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit, … And give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Three things that help us yield ourselves more to the Holy Spirit are: knowing you are dead to the flesh, having faith and trust in God and His Spirit, and fellowshipping diligently with the Spirit of God.

The Bible says, “Even so consider yourselves also dead to sin and your relation to it broken, but alive to God [living in unbroken fellowship with Him] in Christ Jesus,” Rom.6:11 (AMP). The more we realize that we died with Christ on the cross, the more we can yield to the Spirit and die to our flesh, (Rom.6:2-7). Yielding to the Spirit of God requires faith. We must trust Him just as a sheep trusts its shepherd. God is always at work in you by His Spirit, and He is making you willing and able to do His good will, (Phil.2:12-13). Believe that you can walk in the Spirit and overcome the lusts of the flesh. Believe that you died to sin as you died with Christ on the Cross. See yourself dead to sin.

Just as drinking alcohol can bring a person under the influence of the drink (spirit), fellowshipping with the Holy Spirit can bring us under His influence. As we wholeheartedly meditate on the word of God and pray with the help of the Spirit, the fruit and gifts of the Spirit are stirred up in us and we bring ourselves under the influence of the Holy Spirit. We become more sensitive to Him and able to yield more to Him.

Prayer Focus:
Pray in the Spirit. Thank God that you died with Christ and died to the flesh. Declare the new life and victory of Christ you have
