WHAT IS THE DRIVING FORCE OF YOUR LIFE?

1 JOHN 2:15-16 (TPT) Don’t set the affections of your heart on this world or in loving the things of the world. The love of the Father and the love of the world are incompatible. For all that the world can offer us—the gratification of our flesh, the allurement of the things of the world, and the obsession with status and importance—none of these things come from the Father but from the world.

One thing that will help you make progress in allowing your spirit to dominate the flesh, is changing the driving force of your life. The driving force of your life reflects your value system and it affects every area of your life. If the driving force of your life is the love of the world, the flesh will dominate your spirit. But when the driving force of your life is the love of God the Father, your spirit will dominate the flesh. In the King James Version, the love of the world in our text above is described as the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life.

Let the love of God the Father and the things God the Father loves be the driving force of your life. Don’t do things only because they feel, look or sound good. Do things because they please God and they are good for your spirit. Love and engage in spiritual activities. Train yourself to love and enjoy spiritual things. Enjoy and give yourself more to prayer, the study of the word, preaching the Gospel, fasting, loving, giving to and forgiving others. Love and enjoy obeying God’s Word, yielding to the leading of the Spirit and denying the flesh.

Let your enjoyment of spiritual things be more than your enjoyment of the pleasures and things of the world.

PRAYER:

FATHER, PLEASE FILL MY HEART WITH YOUR LOVE AND LET YOUR LOVE BE THE DRIVING FORCE OF MY LIFE. HELP ME VALUE SPIRITUAL THINGS MORE.
