THE LOVE OF GOD AND HIS FULLNESS

Ephesians 3:17-19 (NIV)

…so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.

In our study yesterday, we saw that as a result of the life of Christ we now have, we have the fullness of God in us. But our text above tells us that it is as we know the love of Christ that we will be filled with the fullness of God. What does this mean? Does this contradict what we studied yesterday? No, it complements it.

First of all, the knowledge being referred to here is not mere information, but an experience. This is why our text above says, “…this love that surpasses knowledge…” The way the revelation of the love of Christ fills us with the fullness of God is by making us experience the reality of the love and fullness of God. The love of God becomes so real to us, and this makes the fullness of God manifest in our lives.

The love of Christ is the love God has shown us through Christ. God loves us the same way He loves Christ, (John 17:23). When He was on the earth, Jesus was very conscious of how much God the Father loves Him (Matt.3:17, John 10:17, John 17:24). He was always conscious that God the Father was with Him (John 8:29) and He was conscious that God the Father always heard Him when He prays (John 11:41-42). This consciousness made Him live a supernatural life. The Holy Spirit spreads God’s love in our hearts (Rom.5:5).

Prayer:
Dear Father, please fill me with the revelation of the love you have shown me through Christ.
