BE CONTENT, BUT NOT COMPLACENT

1Timothy 6:6-8, Hebrews 13:5, Philippians 3:12 (GNB)

But godliness with contentment is great gain… *Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. *I do not claim that I have already succeeded or have already become perfect. I keep striving to win the prize for which Christ Jesus has already won me to himself.

God wants you to always do your best and be grateful for what you have and His grace upon your life. Be thankful always (1Thes.5:18). Never allow a lack of contentment to steal your joy. Never allow the things you don’t have yet or what has not happened yet, to stop you from being happy and rejoicing in God. Control your appetite and let the joy of the LORD will be your strength. As you remain grateful and faithful with little, God will give you more.

Now, while you’re being content, you must not be complacent. Don’t relent in your efforts and become lazy because you feel you have arrived or achieved. Don’t allow pride or fear to make you develop a complacent attitude. No matter what you have achieved, there is so much more you can become, receive and achieve in life and God, (1 Cor.2:9). Complacency can make you miss out on the greater miracles, victories, and potentials that lie ahead of you. Complacency can even get you into trouble. When David decided to sleep at home when other kings were at battle, he fell into adultery with Bathsheba, (2 Sam.11:1-5). My husband, Archbishop Benson Idahosa was once asked about the greatest miracle he had experienced, and he said, “The next one”. He was grateful for what God was doing in his life, but he never allowed that to make him feel like he was too anointed to relent.

Prayer:
Father, I thank you for the grace you have given me to be content. Help me to never be complacent.
