DON’T TRAP YOURSELF

Prov. 18:7 (KJV, GNB), Prov. 22:24-25 (CEV), Gal. 5:1 (KJV, CEV)

A fool’s mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul. *When a fool speaks, he is ruining himself; he gets caught in the trap of his own words. *Don’t make friends with anyone who has a bad temper. You might turn out like them and get caught in a trap. *Christ has set us free! This means we are really free. Now hold on to your freedom and don’t ever become slaves of the Law again.

Today, we shall consider various ways we can avoid getting trapped and limiting ourselves from living fully as God desires us to. One – Be careful with your words. Don’t be too quick to talk or make promises, (Prov. 6:1-4). Two – Control your appetite. Be content, (Phil.4:12). Greed has led many believers to err from the faith and pierce themselves with many sorrows, (1 Tim. 6:6-10).

Three – Don’t play with sin. Don’t think you can live in sin and get away with it. Like Jesus, love righteousness and hate iniquity, (Heb. 1:9). Don’t be excited about joining the people of the world to engage in works of darkness, (Eph. 5:11). Giving yourself continually to iniquity can make your heart cold towards God, (Matt.24:12, 1John 2:15). Do you remember how Joseph ran away from the temptation of Potiphar’s wife? As he ran away from sin, he was running fast toward the perfect plan God had for his life.

Four – Beware of the kind of company you keep. Be not deceived: evil communication corrupts good manners, (1 Cor.15:33). Five – Don’t get entangled in trying to obey the Law to earn favour from God. Like Paul said, “Having begun in the Spirit (faith in Christ), don’t try to be made perfect by the flesh (your efforts), – Gal.3:1-5.

Prayer:
Father, I thank you for grace to control my words, appetite, abstain from sin, keep the right company, and keep my faith in Christ.
