THE LAW OF THE SPIRIT OF LIFE

Romans 8:2, 2Corinthians 3:5-6, 17

For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. *Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think anything as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God; Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life. *Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.

The law of the Spirit of life in Christ is the operating system of the new creation, and the law of sin and death is the operating system of the unsaved man. The Gospel of Christ activates the law of the Spirit of life in Christ, and the Law activates the law of sin and death, (Rom. 3:20, Rom.7:5, 1Cor. 15:56). The more people hear the Gospel (of what Christ has done for them), the more the Spirit and life of Christ in them is stirred up to grow in them and manifest.

One of the ways the Law brings death is by bringing condemnation. Another way is by the frustration of being forced to go against one’s true nature. The Israelites (whom the Law was given to), had the nature of sin, but they were being told not to sin. The Law told them what was wrong with them, but did not empower them to do what was right. The Old Testament was about what man needed to do in his strength to please God, but the New Testament is about what God has done for a man (through Christ) and what God does in man (by His Spirit) to make man pleasing in His sight, (Heb. 8:10, Heb. 10:16-18).

This is why the Gospel is called the perfect law of liberty, (James 1:25).
It frees and empowers us. The Gospel is the revelation of God’s grace that builds us up and gives us our inheritance in Christ, (Acts 20:32).

Prayer:
Father, I thank you that as I hear the Gospel, the Spirit and life of Christ in me are stirred up, and it manifests as I grow spiritually
