HONOUR EVERYONE IN YOUR WORKPLACE

Colossians 3:22-24 & Colossians 4:1 (The Message)

Servants, do what you’re told by your earthly masters… don’t just do the minimum that will get you by. Do your best. Work from the heart for your real Master, for God, confident that you’ll get paid in full when you come into your inheritance. … *… masters, treat your servants considerately. Be fair with them. Don’t forget for a minute that you, too, serve a Master — God in heaven.

Despite everything King Saul did to David, David kept on honouring him and never desired anything evil for King Saul. When he heard of King Saul’s death, he wept bitterly and still referred to him as the Lord’s anointed, (2 Sam.1:1-14). David understood what Romans 13:1-2 (NIV) says: “Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves.”

The story of the Centurion who met Jesus concerning the healing of one of his servants is a very good example of how leaders should care and be concerned about the state of their followers, (Luke 7:2-3). How do you think that servant would have felt and responded to his duties after he got healed? Now, like with the family, greater honour in the workplace will lead to increased productivity, creativity, effectiveness and increased ability to provide value and solutions. Look at how Naaman benefitted just because he and his wife listened to someone working for them, (2 Kings 5:1-5). Let’s live by example and model honour in the workplace, by treating everyone with honour and respect despite their cadre, tribe or any other status.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I thank you for your wisdom and grace to honour every leader, colleague and staff in my place of work
