PRAY AND ACT

PHILIPPIANS 4:6-9 (GNB)

Don’t worry about anything, but in all your prayers ask God for what you need, always asking him with a thankful heart. And God’s peace, … will keep your hearts and minds safe…fill your minds with those things that are good … Put into practice what you learned and received from me, both from my words and from my actions. And the God who gives us peace will be with you.

After admonishing the believers at Philippi about praying and thinking the right thoughts, Paul asked them to do or put into practice, the things they had both learnt from him and seen him do.

After praying, the way we act and live is very important. For example, God expects us to be patient. It is by faith and patience we inherit the promises of God, (Heb. 6:12). As you exercise patience during your time of trials, God builds and perfects your character, in preparation for the manifestation of your desire, (James 1:2-4). The Bible says “Remember your former leaders, who spoke God’s message to you. Think back on how they lived and died and imitate their faith,” (Heb.13:7, GNB)

Be a doer of God’s word and not a hearer alone. Act in line with the image of yourself you receive from the revelation of Christ. Don’t easily forget the image God reveals to you of who you are in Christ, (James 1:22-24). Keep your
focus on this and keep acting in line with this. “But if you look closely into the perfect law that sets people free, and keep on paying attention to it and do not simply listen and then forget it, but put it into practice—you will be blessed by God in what you do,” (James 1:25, GNB). When God stirs something in your heart, do it immediately. Don’t delay. Maximize the promptings and opportunities of the Spirit.

PRAYER:
FATHER, I THANK YOU FOR THE GRACE YOU HAVE GIVEN ME TO LIVE AND ACT IN LINE WITH YOUR WILL AND WHO YOU HAVE MADE ME IN CHRIST.
