HOW WE ARE PERFECTED BY PERSECUTION AND TRIALS
Hebrews 2:10 (CEV), Hebrews 5:8-9 (GNB)
Everything belongs to God, and all things were created by his power. So God did the right thing when he made Jesus perfect by suffering, as Jesus led many of God’s children to be saved and to share in his glory. *But even though he was God’s Son, he learned through his sufferings to be obedient. When he was made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all those who obey him
In fulfilling the ministry and assignment God has given us, there are persecutions and trials that we must go through. These persecutions and trials are not punishment from God, and they are not things like sickness that Jesus has suffered and died for us to have victory over. They are mainly challenges we will face from people and situations, as we live for Christ and as we embark on fulfilling the assignment God has given us. For example, the reason Paul suffered the way that he did was not because of the things he did before he began to follow Jesus. It was because of the great ministry and assignment God had given him, (Acts 9:15-16). Jesus too had to go through such suffering to prepare and perfect Him for the assignment God had given Him.
One way we’re perfected through persecution and trials is our faith is purified and strengthened, just as gold is purified in fire, (1Pet.1:7). The testing of our faith produces steadfastness and leads to our perfection, (James 1:2-4). As we exercise our faith in God, it gets stronger.
Another way we are perfected is that the things we go through produce compassion in us. Compassion makes us better ministers. We better understand what people go through and can help them overcome just like Jesus does for us, (Heb.4:14-16).
Prayer:
Father, I thank you that as I go through my persecutions and trials, my faith is getting stronger and compassion is stirred in my heart.
