TOPIC: Woes Of Childish Leaders (DCLM Daily Manna 11 August 2021)

TEXT: Ecclesiastes 10:16-20

16 Woe to thee, O land, when thy king is a child, and thy princes eat in the morning!

17 Blessed art thou, O land, when thy king is the son of nobles, and thy princes eat in due season, for strength, and not for drunkenness!

18 By much slothfulness the building decayeth; and through idleness of the hands the house droppeth through.

19 A feast is made for laughter, and wine maketh merry: but money answereth all things.

20 Curse not the king, no not in thy thought; and curse not the rich in thy bedchamber: for a bird of the air shall carry the voice, and that which hath wings shall tell the matter.

KEY VERSE: “Woe to thee, O land, when thy king is a child, and thy princes eat in the morning!” – (Ecclesiastes 10:16

MESSAGE:

The world owes much to the ancient Egyptians who created a civilisation that lasted for over 3,000 years. They recorded remarkable development in diverse fields. Atop this civilisation were about 170 known pharaohs. Tutankhamun is, perhaps, the most popular of them, but he was associated with neither importance nor great achievement. Indeed he died at the age of 18. He was mainly popular for his lavish lifestyle. Even at burial, his tomb housed over 5,000 expensive objects. He was put in 3 golden mummy cases (coffins) which fit inside one another.

If all the Pharaohs lived like him, Egypt would not have achieved such a golden era as they did. Solomon, in today’s text highlighted the link between the prosperity of a people and the character of their rulers. A land that is governed by people who are childish, weak, and foolish and given to lusts and pleasure is doomed. But when people are governed by a leader of noble character, there will be progress, prosperity and happiness everywhere.

In the church, the character and spirituality of the pastor robs off on the spiritual quality of the members. It is sad that these days many church leaders are spiritually childish, indulgent and visionless. This may be the single most important reason there are so many spiritually anaemic and worldly professing Christians. But let there be spiritually vibrant and holy leaders in churches and there will be great revival, progress and joy in the church.

You do not have to be a church leader, however, to be of noble character. God expects every believer to be of high moral principle and to make positive impact anywhere he or she is. It is not in the character of a Christian to be lazy or indulgent. Instead, we should be a people of noble character, hard work, vision and progress.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
Be childlike in faith, not childish in faith.

THE BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:
Titus 1-3
