Key Verse

“But ye shall be named the Priests of the LORD: men shall call you the Ministers of our God: ye shall eat the riches of the Gentiles, and in their glory shall ye boast yourselves” (Isaiah 61:6).TEXT — Isaiah 61:6-7

Message

United States Representative, Sheila Jackson Lee, along with 23 of her colleagues, have introduced a bill called H.R. 40 to form a commission of 13 members to study reparations for slavery. The purpose of this commission is to “document the evils of slavery and discrimination, then recommend appropriate remedies, including paying money to the descendants of slaves.” A strong supporter for this bill is Rev. Eugene Taylor Sutton, the Episcopal bishop of Maryland, USA. He has urged congress to pass this bill, stating that Americans must “offer atonement.” In other words, the citizens of America must pay for the nation’s sins!

At this time, the Lord was comforting Israel after her long captivity in Babylon. Israel would be restored to her original land and their shame would be turned to fame. God also promised that they would eat the riches of the Gentiles as a way of paying back for their years of oppression and servitude.

From the outset, Israel was made to set their hope on a coming Messiah, who would wipe away their tears and restore their dignity. Christ’s birth, many years later, more than fulfilled this expectation. Recall that after being freed from the Egyptian bondage, as they were departing, the Israelites were compensated with the riches of the Egyptians (Exodus 11:2,3).

These experiences relate to the saying that “The spade that digs the pit of our adversities also makes room for our consolation.” The challenges of the present time would not last forever. Weeping may endure for the night, but joy would certainly come in the morning (Psalm 30:5). Get ready! God is at work and He will turn your shame to fame, tests to testimonies and turn you from zero to hero.

Thought for the day

Christ has the power to restore wasted years.
