TOPIC: Pleading Your Case With God (DCLM Daily Manna 11 September 2021)

TEXT: Job 13:14-18 (KJV)

14 Wherefore do I take my flesh in my teeth, and put my life in mine hand?

15 Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him: but I will maintain mine own ways before him.

16 He also shall be my salvation: for an hypocrite shall not come before him.

17 Hear diligently my speech, and my declaration with your ears.

18 Behold now, I have ordered my cause; I know that I shall be justified.

KEY VERSE: “Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him: but I will maintain mine own ways before him.” – (Job 13:15)

Job had good knowledge about God. He did not allow his sufferings and pains to take away his reasoning and knowledge of God. His confidence and convictions about the Lord remained unchanging even though his situation had changed from prosperity to adversity. Realising that his friends misapplied general knowledge of divine justice to his peculiar situation, Job turned to God to make his appeal and prayers. He was upset because his suffering and pains did not bring him as much pain as the feeling of rejection by God.

In his desperation, Job became bold and blunt as he pleaded his case with God irrespective of the repercussion. He said, “Wherefore do I take my flesh in my teeth… Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him: but I will maintain mine own ways before him” (Job 13:14,15). Job did the right thing by exposing his life completely to the all-knowing God, believing that He would forgive and justify him. Instead of proving his innocence before God, he humbled himself before Him.

Today, many people are suffering adversities who still justify themselves and assert self-righteousness. In times of adversities and trials, a believer, like Job, should rely completely on God, humble himself and seek divine intervention. Believers should also learn to always plead their cases with God through the prayer of faith. The sinner, on the other hand, must show his helplessness and spiritual destitution by repenting and forsaking his sins and accepting Jesus as Lord and Saviour.

However, whatever adversities or deprivation we are passing through, we must understand it is for a moment. So, we should not be sorrowful as those who have no hope.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
God is clothed with the garment of mercy.
