TOPIC: The Presence Of God (DCLM Daily Manna 17 September 2021)

TEXT: Psalm 16:1-11

1 Preserve me, O God: for in thee do I put my trust.

2 O my soul, thou hast said unto the Lord, Thou art my Lord: my goodness extendeth not to thee;

3 But to the saints that are in the earth, and to the excellent, in whom is all my delight.

4 Their sorrows shall be multiplied that hasten after another god: their drink offerings of blood will I not offer, nor take up their names into my lips.

5 The Lord is the portion of mine inheritance and of my cup: thou maintainest my lot.

6 The lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places; yea, I have a goodly heritage.

7 I will bless the Lord, who hath given me counsel: my reins also instruct me in the night seasons.

8 I have set the Lord always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.

9 Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoiceth: my flesh also shall rest in hope.

10 For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.

11 Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.

KEY VERSE: “I have set the LORD always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.” – (Psalm 16:8)

MESSAGE:

David was surrounded in life by threatening enemies which, according to our text, led him to make God his refuge. He told God how he felt about the troubles and pains that life threw at him. In spite of the presence of enemies, the knowledge and realisation of God’s presence gave him confidence. Those troubles and pains became meaningless in comparison with what the presence of God meant to him. This helped him to persevere till the end.

God’s presence empowers His children to accomplish great things in life and to face life’s unpleasant situations. It brings godliness, favour, protection, peace, joy, privileges and confidence. The believer needs God’s presence to guide, lead and help him carry out His will.

We all, like David, face troubles and pains because God does not exempt believers from the day-to-day circumstances of life. Believers, as well as unbelievers, go through troubles and pain at times. While unbelievers become hopeless and agitated about life, those who seek God can confidently confront life situations with hope and expectations. As the believer grows in his walk with God, he understands His demands and standards for his daily life. He lives and walks in godliness and fear before the Lord. This continues to attract divine help, which keeps him joyful and victorious through all troubles.

The sense of God’s presence keeps the believer away from sin. It makes him to worship the Lord in the beauty of His holiness. God’s presence makes him bold and fearless. During troubles, the believer has unique peace and calmness in life. He knows that God is with him and has everything under His control. Nothing can prevent the believer from his purpose or divine calling when he knows that God is ever present with him.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
With God present, everything is under control.
