TOPIC: Possess Your Possession (DCLM Daily Manna 18 January 2023)
KEY VERSE: “Behold, I have set the land before you: go in and possess the land which the LORD sware unto your fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give unto them and to their seed after them” (Deuteronomy 1:8).
TEXT: Deuteronomy 1:1-8 (KJV)
1 These be the words which Moses spake unto all Israel on this side Jordan in the wilderness, in the plain over against the Red sea, between Paran, and Tophel, and Laban, and Hazeroth, and Dizahab.
2 (There are eleven days’ journey from Horeb by the way of mount Seir unto Kadeshbarnea.)
3 And it came to pass in the fortieth year, in the eleventh month, on the first day of the month, that Moses spake unto the children of Israel, according unto all that the Lord had given him in commandment unto them;
4 After he had slain Sihon the king of the Amorites, which dwelt in Heshbon, and Og the king of Bashan, which dwelt at Astaroth in Edrei:
5 On this side Jordan, in the land of Moab, began Moses to declare this law, saying,
6 The Lord our God spake unto us in Horeb, saying, Ye have dwelt long enough in this mount:
7 Turn you, and take your journey, and go to the mount of the Amorites, and unto all the places nigh thereunto, in the plain, in the hills, and in the vale, and in the south, and by the sea side, to the land of the Canaanites, and unto Lebanon, unto the great river, the river Euphrates.
8 Behold, I have set the land before you: go in and possess the land which the Lord sware unto your fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give unto them and to their seed after them.
DCLM Daily Manna For Today MESSAGE:
Sometimes, human beings need constant reminder and encouragement to arise and possess what rightly belongs to them. Such reminders and encouragements drive away fear and give courage to move forward to possess the possession. God, the owner and ruler of heaven and earth made a promise, not only to Abraham, but also to his descendants to give them the land of Canaan for a possession. Abraham was therefore expected to leave where he was and go for the possession.
This Bible text forms part of the parting message of Moses, Israel’s great prophet and lawgiver. God had given the land to the children of Israel to displace the wicked pagan worshippers therein because they occupied a strategic place in His redemption plan for the world. Their eventual occupation of the land was a testimony to the faithfulness of God in fulfilling the promise He made to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, their patriarchs.
That chosen portion of land that became the possession of the Israelites has eternal implication for mankind. It also proves to us that once God makes a promise, He always stands by it to fulfil it. God can never lie. Fulfilment of His promise may sometimes take longer than we anticipate but it will be fulfilled in His own appointed time.
The children of Israel had just eleven days to enter the Promised Land, yet Moses kept encouraging them to go in and possess the land. Believers should be constantly reminded to not only ensure their place in God’s kingdom but also to labour to possess the world for Christ by soul-winning. We have His promise that every place that the sole of our feet shall tread upon, He will give us for a possession. Our heavenly Canaan is not too far anymore. We need sustained obedience, consistent faith and righteousness to get there.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
We lose every right that we fail to possess.
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:
Exodus 5-7
