Key Verse

“Yea, the LORD will answer and say unto his people, Behold, I will send you corn, and wine, and oil, and ye shall be satisfied therewith: and I will no more make you a reproach among the heathen” (Joel 2:19).TEXT — Joel 2:18-20

Message

Centuries ago, during a war in ancient Greece, the citizens and their rulers waited with bathed breath to receive news about the conflict. After a decisive victory, a soldier, Pheidippides, was said to have been dispatched to run several kilometres from Marathon to Athens to deliver the good tidings. It was all the information the entire population was eager to hear: that the Athenians had won the battle of Marathon against the Persians in 490BC.

The preceding verses in this chapter reflect the anguish and sorrow Israel went through at the hands of their enemies. Their celebrated power and prowess under different righteous kings had long been forgotten. The enemies boldly asked them to showcase the evidence of the power of their God. As it were, victory and triumph had eluded God’s heritage. However, the prophet predicted a divine visitation in answer to their cry. Hunger and want would be replaced by plenty and abundance. Repentance, contrition and humility would bring respite. “Then will the LORD be jealous for his land, and pity his people” (Joel 2:18). It was spontaneous. God remains faithful and consistent; He intervenes when His people meet His condition.

Many professors ignorantly assume that many days of fasting and prayers without turning away from sin will bring down their needed miracles. It never works that way. God is gracious and plenteous in mercy but will not break His covenant or alter His words, status, or commandments. Generational curses, ancestral spells, enchantments, divinations, and every satanic activity do not remain when Christ comes to reign in a heart and life that is entirely given to Him.

Christ is sufficient. Once we have turned away from all known sins and pray in faith, He will meet all our needs. “Yea, the LORD will answer and say unto his people, Behold, I will send you corn, and wine, and oil, and ye shall be satisfied therewith: and I will no more make you a reproach among the heathen.” Without fear and intimidation, the Lord expects us to come boldly in prayers of faith to have our needs met (Hebrews 4:16).

Thought for the day

You cannot lean on Christ and have a fall.
