TOPIC: Twice Owned (DCLM Daily Manna 21 November 2022)

TEXT: 2 Peter 3:3-9 (KJV)

3 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,

4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.

5 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:

6 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:

7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.

8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

KEY VERSE: “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:9).

DCLM Daily Manna For Today MESSAGE:

A story was told of a little boy who built a sailboat, tarred and painted it. He took it to the lake and sure enough, with a little breeze, the boat went rippling along the waves. Suddenly, before the boy knew it, the boat was out of reach and it floated away until it was gone. Some days later, the little boy was downtown and walked past a secondhand store. There in the window was the boat and he was informed that it was for sale. The poor little boy did not have any money, but he worked hard and saved his pennies. Finally, one day, he went in and bought the little boat. As he left the store, he was heard saying, “you’re twice my boat because I made you and secondly, I bought you!”

There are many people who have been questioning the return of the Lord, especially in these last days. They do so because they are ignorant of the word and mercies of God. Days and time are not significant to God, as a thousand years is considered a day before Him. He is also not slack concerning His promises as human beings do. His delayed return is for the message of salvation to reach everyone because He does not want anyone to perish but that all should come to repentance.

After the fall, man needed to be reconciled with God and had through animal sacrifices sought forgiveness. These sacrifices were temporary as the blood of animals cannot take away sins. A permanent remedy was found, when Christ, by shedding His blood, obtained eternal redemption for man. He paid the ultimate price to redeem humanity from sin and its consequences. He, therefore, owns the believer twice: first by creation and secondly, by redemption.

However, it is not enough to know that God owns us twice; we must personally profit from it, so we would not perish. God’s patience for the sinner has a terminal date as Christ’s return is imminent. Therefore, acknowledge your fallen state, repent, believe the atoning work of Christ at Calvary and be saved. Then God’s twice ownership of you will be realised.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
The believer belongs to God by creation and by redemption.

THE BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:
