TOPIC: Humility Is Key (DCLM Daily Manna 25 September 2022)

TEXT: Philippians 2:5-11 (KJV)

5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:

6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:

7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:

8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:

10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;

11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

KEY VERSE: “But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men” (Philippians 2:7).

DCLM Daily Manna For Today MESSAGE:

D. L. Moody was the most famous evangelist in the world in the late 1800s. People came from around the world to attend his Bible Conferences in Northfield, Massachusetts, U.S.A. One year, a large group of pastors from Europe were among the attendees. They were given rooms in the dormitory of the Bible school. As was the custom in Europe, the men put their shoes outside the door of their rooms, expecting them to be cleaned and polished by servants during the night. Of course, there were no servants in the American dorms. Finding the shoes, Moody mentioned the problem to some of the students, but none of them offered to help. Without uttering another word, the great evangelist gathered the shoes, took them to his room where he began to clean and polish each pair.

From our text, Jesus is repeatedly highlighted as our perfect Model. His self-abasement and humility was emphasised. Though equal with God as co-Creator in the Godhead, He humbled Himself to the point of dying on the cross to save helpless humanity from sin and hell.

To credit oneself with any recorded feat in life is an open and flagrant repudiation of God’s benevolence. Suffice it to say that it is an ungodly demonstration of pride and carnality. Success, perhaps has killed more people than failure ever can. When riches increase, it intoxicates many who are thoughtless and simple. They become very proud and pompous. They could hardly find time to pray and study the Bible, talk less of attending church. They begin to travel far and wide due to the demands of their business. They attribute their success to their skills and abilities. At the end, they make a shipwreck of their faith.

We must learn humility from Christ; avoid acts of pride and self-exaltation, especially when the Lord has used us to achieve great tasks in the ministry.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
Christ is our perfect Example in meekness and in all things.

THE BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:
Hebrews 10-13

Prayer Points:

1 Lord, give me willingness and love for humility.

  1. Let your word convict and cleanse me from every form of pride.
  2. Do a deeper work of humility in me.
  3. Sanctify your people afresh and let the mind of humility rule our mind and relationships afresh.

HYMN: More like the Master. (GHS 259)
