TOPIC: Never Be Despondent (DCLM Daily Manna 3 April 2021)

TEXT: Job 30:1-14

1 But now they that are younger than I have me in derision, whose fathers I would have disdained to have set with the dogs of my flock.

2 Yea, whereto might the strength of their hands profit me, in whom old age was perished?

3 For want and famine they were solitary; fleeing into the wilderness in former time desolate and waste.

4 Who cut up mallows by the bushes, and juniper roots for their meat.

5 They were driven forth from among men, (they cried after them as after a thief;)

6 To dwell in the clifts of the valleys, in caves of the earth, and in the rocks.

7 Among the bushes they brayed; under the nettles they were gathered together.

8 They were children of fools, yea, children of base men: they were viler than the earth.

9 And now am I their song, yea, I am their byword.

10 They abhor me, they flee far from me, and spare not to spit in my face.

11 Because he hath loosed my cord, and afflicted me, they have also let loose the bridle before me.

12 Upon my right hand rise the youth; they push away my feet, and they raise up against me the ways of their destruction.

13 They mar my path, they set forward my calamity, they have no helper.

14 They came upon me as a wide breaking in of waters: in the desolation they rolled themselves upon me.

KEY VERSE: “But now they that are younger than I have me in derision, whose fathers I would have disdained to have set with the dogs of my flock.” – (Job 30:1)

MESSAGE:

Christianity is a lifelong race in which believers must never lose focus of Christ who endured several contradictions from sinners. He endured the hostility of wicked people whom He had healed, delivered, raised from the dead and fed both physically and spiritually. Rather than being grateful for the gracious works of Christ, sinners spat on Him, beat, despised, scorned and eventually nailed Him to the cross.

In the text, we see a reversal of fortunes for Job. The poor people, the fatherless and the downtrodden whom he had greatly helped when he was in perfect health and full prosperity, now turned against him. They had forgotten the blessings they had enjoyed from Job before this misfortune befell him.

Sometimes, believers are despised, mocked, reviled, hated, maligned, misrepresented or wrongfully accused by the wicked people of the world. At such moments, we should always look up to Jesus, our Source of comfort. He had endured similar contradictions of the wicked. People who once honoured Job now treated him with disdain and insults just as people who shouted, “Messiah, Messiah” at Jesus also cried, “Crucify Him, Crucify Him!”

As a believer, do should not be weary in well doing. Do not expect any gratitude from your beneficiaries. If it happens that there is a reversal of fortunes and those people turn against you, do not be surprised. As Christ committed His case into the hands of God, the just Judge, leave everything in His hands who will reward every man according to his work. The mighty Deliverer is ever faithful. He who eventually delivered Job will deliver you and put songs of joy in your mouth.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
Like Christ, rejoice when wrongfully treated.
