“Avoid Eternal Regret!”

Key Verse
“See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that speaketh from heaven” (Hebrews 12:25).TEXT — Hebrews 12:18-29
Message
From Pulpit Helps of May 1991 came the following Things You Will Never Regret: showing kindness to an aged person; destroying a letter written in anger; offering an apology that will save a friendship; stopping a scandal that was ruining a reputation; taking time to show consideration to parents, friends, brothers, and sisters; refraining from gossip when others around you delight in it; and refusing to do a thing which is wrong although others do it. No doubt, we all have regrets, like not being a better student, not studying more; not having more self-discipline, or not spending quality time with families; not helping family members, or not being there when other people need our help. These are all temporary regrets that may be fixed with time.
However, the greatest regret every unrepentant sinner will have is to reject Christ as Lord and Saviour now and later realised this grave error when it is already too late. Today’s text has timely counsel for everyone who desires to get to heaven at last. Earlier in Hebrews 12:16, we are warned about the error of Esau; the error of despising what is important while clinging to the ephemeral, only to realise too late that this was one priority wrongly placed. Today, there is an unprecedented increase in the scale of defilement, adultery, fornication, profanity, and greed in different societies all over the world. Happily, Christ’s atonement provides the remedy to escape the impending eternal regret.
Let us all remember that when life on earth is over, there is an eternity awaiting us. Our focus and desire therefore must be heaven where Jesus has gone to prepare a place for us. Heaven must be more important for every living soul than anything else. There is no excuse for anyone to miss this glorious provision, especially when the alternative is not an attractive option.
Thought for the day
The most abundant things in hell are regrets and guilt!
