TOPIC: Faithfulness In Little Things (DCLM Daily Manna 3 June 2024)
KEY VERSE: “Howbeit there was no reckoning made with them of the money that was delivered unto their hand, because they dealt faithfully” (2 Kings 22:7).
TEXT: 2 Kings 22:1-7 (KJV)
1 Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned thirty and one years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Jedidah, the daughter of Adaiah of Boscath.
2 And he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord, and walked in all the way of David his father, and turned not aside to the right hand or to the left.
3 And it came to pass in the eighteenth year of king Josiah, that the king sent Shaphan the son of Azaliah, the son of Meshullam, the scribe, to the house of the Lord, saying,
4 Go up to Hilkiah the high priest, that he may sum the silver which is brought into the house of the Lord, which the keepers of the door have gathered of the people:
5 And let them deliver it into the hand of the doers of the work, that have the oversight of the house of the Lord: and let them give it to the doers of the work which is in the house of the Lord, to repair the breaches of the house,
6 Unto carpenters, and builders, and masons, and to buy timber and hewn stone to repair the house.
7 Howbeit there was no reckoning made with them of the money that was delivered into their hand, because they dealt faithfully.
DCLM Daily Manna For Today MESSAGE:
It was Dr. F. B. Meyer who said, “Do not waste your time waiting and longing for large opportunities, which may never come. But faithfully handle the little things that are always claiming your attention”.
The key word in today’s passage is faithfulness. The text contains an account of Josiah’s righteous reign in Judah. In the eighteenth year of his reign, he sent his servants to the temple to Hilkiah the high priest to collect and deliver the proceeds from the various offerings given at the temple to carpenters and builders for the maintenance of the temple. There was no reckoning made with these workmen because they dealt faithfully.
God does not reward title or position, but faithfulness. It is not how big or how challenging your task is; but how faithful you are in executing it. The workmen who were charged with the task of maintaining the temple were not priests or Levites in the temple. They did not require rocket engineering or a degree from higher institutions of learning to carry out their simple functions. They were commended for utilizing the funds judiciously. This is what God expects from Christians who serve in whatever capacity in government or the private sector; and from believers who do business.
We must account for all the funds and other resources committed into our hands in granular details. We must be patiently faithful, diligently honest and uprightly pursue our businesses and careers without cutting corners, seeking to take advantage of some loopholes in the system. As we are faithful in the little things we do now, God would bless us with enduring riches that will not bring sorrows or heartaches.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Faithfulness in little things brings big breakthroughs from God.
