The MESSAGE:

When something is said to be new, the impression one has is that it has just been produced or purchased and people naturally look for manufacturer’s label on items as evidence of the newness. New things are desired and cherished for the attributes and qualities they possess. A new car, for example, ought to be free from every kind of dent, fault, error and complaint, it ought to be attractive, beautiful and clean and not dirty users cloths or hands; it ought to be excellent, effective and brilliant in its operations to guarantee timely arrival at destinations; it ought to be dependable, comfortable and easy to manage as there would be no need for repairs. Travelling in a new vehicle gives comfort and confidence without any fear of breakdown or crises and the resultant time wastage. Having a new car is indeed a thing of pride and joy and little wonder car constitutes an important gift item in many societies.

The heart of man can be regarded as the engine room of life but unfortunately, the Bible describes the heart to be desperately wicked (Jeremiah 17:9). For this reason, God promised a time that He would take away the heart of stone and give to man the heart of flesh (Ezekiel 36:26). God fulfilled this promise by sacrificing His righteous Son Jesus Christ on our behalf, that we may have new beginning. The act of becoming a new man is spiritual and God does it, not minding the extent to which a man had gone in his filthiness. It involves repentance, confession and conversion. Being converted is making a complete turnaround change in orientation in life. It is changing our views, opinions, desires and passions, self-will and focus to align with that of God for our lives through Christ Jesus. It is being born again by the word of God, becoming a new creation with old things done away with, or being a regenerated person (2 Corinthians 5:17). Becoming new entails being redeemed by the blood of Christ; the blood washes and flushes through the heart and mind.

A new man is therefore that man that has been purchased by Christ and has the mind of Christ; he does not live by the dictates of his heart or mind having turned from satan and is crucified to the flesh and the world with all its passions. He is meek and dependant on God. 1 Peter 1:22 declares the soul of such a man purified through obedience of the truth (Jesus Christ and His word). A new man has passion for the things of God (i.e., prayer and fasting, praise and worship, studying and meditating on the word of God, witnessing for Christ, fellowship and other forms of Christian service). Having died and risen with Christ, he is totally free from the bondage of sin but is heavenly minded, not hesitant to sacrifice his all to please God and he counts all things loss for the sake of the gospel.

A new man does not envy, hate, lie, backbite or slander, strive or engage in other works of the flesh. He humbly forgives easily no matter the offense and is fully endowed with the fruit of the spirit (love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, temperance and meekness) as mark of ownership by Christ. A new man is a burden bearer; He is not a hypocrite or men pleaser neither is he afraid of insult because he is devoid of ego. He therefore gladly accepts to be persecuted for righteous living and the course of the gospel of Christ. A new man is the salt of the earth and light of the world; His word is full of grace and seasoned with salt, giving life and healing to the faint and broken hearted. His radiant lifestyle serves as a pointer, directing others into the kingdom of God. He is blessed, having fulfilled all the characteristics of a blessed person in Matthew 5:3-11. A new man, being a true ambassador of Jesus, is no doubt a candidate of heaven. What a glorious life, how wonderful! Are you a new man? The blood of Jesus is available to clean and renew you. However, you must surrender to Jesus and ask Him to do His work of transformation in your life. Jesus never fails, think about this.
