TOPIC: Conditions For Divine Elevation (Mountain Of Fire and Miracle Ministries, MFM Daily Devotional 26 July 2019)

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Psalm 40-42; Acts 27:1-26

FIRE SCRIPTURE: 1 Samuel 16:1-13

MEMORY VERSE: “When pride cometh, then cometh shame: but with the lowly is wisdom.” –Proverbs 11:2

The MESSAGE:

Elevation comes from God (Psalm 75:6). One Bible character that experienced divine elevation was David. God chose him, elevated him and used him for His glory. Let us examine the factors that predisposed David towards divine election and elevation.

The first factor was David’s position in the family. He was the youngest (eighth) son of Jesse. He was also the smallest in size and least in ranking. So, David was someone you won’t think of immediately as the candidate God would choose for elevation. God uses the foolish things of the world to confound the wise.

The second factor that predisposed David for elevation was the kind of priorities he had. David was the keeper of the sheep of the family. It is surprising that there were seven older brothers of David who were available for selection but not available for work. David was not looking for post. He was busy with his work: watching over the flock, feeding and protecting them. He even put his life in the line, fighting with bears and lions to rescue the sleep. God must have watched David and seen the leadership traits in him and concluded that the same passion with which he looked after the sheep qualifies him for being entrusted with the care of His children.

The third factor that predisposed David to divine election and elevation was his personality. David was ruddy and good looking. Besides, he had good personality and attitude. Let us note that the Bible says that Eliab had good look too. If both Eliab and David were good looking, why then did God reject Eliab and chose David? Eliab was arrogant about his physical look and position as the first born. He believed that as the first child of the family, he should get the best of everything and should be placed ahead of others in all things. David, on the other hand, relied totally on divine providence. If you go to God and rely on your physical credentials and boast about them, God will fail you. He resists the proud but gives grace to the humble.

David was also good looking but his heart was more important to him. He was not arrogant about his look. He loved worshiping God. While alone, watching over the sheep in the forest, he would play his harp and worship God. As a result of these three factors, David, the overlooked and abandoned, got the approval and elevation of heaven and was anointed among his brethren by Prophet Samuel. I pray that heaven will choose and elevate you today, in the name of Jesus.
