TOPIC: Praise Triumphs Gloriously (I) (Mountain Of Fire and Miracle Ministries, MFM Daily Devotional 27 July 2019)
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Psalm 43-45; Acts 27:27-44
FIRE SCRIPTURE: Acts 16:23-31
MEMORY VERSE: “And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them.” – Acts 16:25
The MESSAGE:
In one of the missionary journeys, Paul and Silas came across a slave girl who was possessed with a spirit of divination and was being used for gains by her masters. Paul cast the spirit of divination out of her and that infuriated the girl’s masters who dragged Paul and Silas to the magistrates saying, “These men being Jews, exceedingly trouble our city; and they teach customs which are not lawful for us, being Romans to receive or observe.” With this accusation, the multitude rose against Paul and Silas, the magistrates tore off their clothes and commanded them to be beaten with rods and imprisoned. They were put into the inner prison and their feet were fastened in the stocks.
Paul and Silas were in the will of God. They were doing the good works God instructed them to do (missionary work and soul winning) and were where God had sent them. Yet the enemy rose against them; they faced false accusation and persecution. How Paul and Silas responded to this trial of faith constitutes a great lesson for us all. First, they did not throw a pity party, asking why God should allow such persecution to happen to them when they were doing His work in obedience. Second, they did not complain or murmur, neither did they allow their spirits to be dampened. They had the right attitude in their precarious situation.
Acts 16:25-26 says that at midnight, Paul and Silas prayed and sang hymns and praises to God and the prisoners were listening to them. Suddenly, there was a great earthquake that shook the foundations of the prison. Immediately, all doors were opened and everyone’s chains were loosed. The praise of Paul and Silas at midnight brought supernatural intervention. This is an example of the power of praise in difficult circumstances. Beloved, our response when the unexpected and undesirable happens to us matters a lot. The lesson we are to learn here is that because Paul and Silas responded correctly to their unpleasant experience, they had a glorious experience and the name of their God was honoured. No matter how unpleasant what you are passing through today may be, I encourage you give God high praise. Heaven will give you a pleasant turnaround and your joy will be full, in Jesus’ name.
