TOPIC: In The Beginning (II) (Mountain Of Fire and Miracle Ministries, MFM Daily Devotional 13 June 2019)

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Ezra 6-8; John 21

FIRE SCRIPTURE: Genesis 3:1-5

MEMORY VERSE: “But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.” – 2 Corinthians 11:3

The MESSAGE:

Many people ask, “If there is God that created the world, why is the world in such a mess? How come satan seems to be in charge? How did sin enter into the world, what went wrong?”

Christians wrongly assume that sin is merely doing the wrong things and the solution is just saying no to those things. We must recognise that sin comes as a result of one’s journey away from God. The path of sin begins with doubting God (Genesis 3:1). The devil knows exactly what God said, but he twists the word in our hearts to raise doubts. Anger and malice do not begin with a decision to hate our neighbours, friends and colleagues, it starts with wondering why they did not treat us as we deserve.

Doubt is the first step and then it develops into a pathway of disobedience to God’s word (Genesis 3:2-3). The devil exaggerates situation in the hope of inducing man to distrust God. Trust and confidence in God and His word will then begin to sink. Eve did not disobey God immediately, she pondered and the questions came up like it is occurring in our minds daily.

God says, “I must love and understand my wife, be gentle and knid to her” — and then be miserable doing it. Teenagers would think, “God requires me to obey my parents and remain pure” — never having fun like my mates. Women would say, “God demands me to be submissive to that arrogant and self-centred man who kills all my ideas.” Others think, “Do I really need to go to church to go to heaven?” So many unanswered questions! The devil plants all these in the hearts of men just to distrust God. He called God a liar and then promised Eve that she would be like God. Sin is a direct rebellion against God and satan will go all the way to make man fall.

Jesus came as a perfect model. He never questioned God. He never disobeyed. He never doubted His word. He never called the Father a liar even when it was obvious that He was led to the cross. He fulfilled His ministry on earth. He committed no sin, neither was deceit found in His mouth. When He was reviled, He did not revile in return; when He suffered, He did not threaten. So, we see Christ as our true model. In Christ we have the strength to obey God. Every promise of God is yes and Amen. If He has said it, He could do it. When we submit to Him, He will lift us up. A broken heart and a contrite spirit the LORD will not despise.
