Topic: The Enemies Of The Right Thought

Fear is an enemy of the right thought. When you allow your mind to be choked with fear, it is impossible for you to reason productively. You have just one mind which cannot be used to fear and think positively at the same time.

SCRIPTURE: Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? Matthew 6:31.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: When you worry, you are combining the failures of yesterday with the challenges of today and the uncertainties of tomorrow.

In our previous studies, we explored the focus of thought. We saw that it is important to focus our thought on the Word of God and the Works of God, amongst other things.

Now, there are enemies that distract peoples’ thought from being centred on the right things. Today, we shall look at three of these enemies of the right thought.

  1. Fear

Fear is an enemy of the right thought. When you allow your mind to be choked with fear, it is impossible for you to reason productively. You have just one mind which cannot be used to fear and think positively at the same time.

There are situations where people are so afraid that they can fail examinations even though they are very brilliant. There was a classmate of mine in the university who was one of the most intelligent students in class at that time. But once it was examination time, he would be so afraid that he would begin to shake and vibrate. Fear makes people write the wrong things in the examination hall. Many people forget what they know because of fear, only to remember it after the examination. It is not possible to think straight and think well in the climate of fear.

So, deal with fear by the word of God.

  1. Worry and anxiety

This is a situation when a person is tensed up. Worry is the opposite use of the mind. Thinking makes you to profitably imagine the future and strategically arrive at the way to get there; but worry keeps you in the past and the present. When you worry, you are combining the failures of yesterday with the challenges of today and the uncertainties of tomorrow. Worry chokes your mentality, weighs you down and makes you not to think straight. To think does not mean you should worry.

Worry is a useless use of the mind; it is the situation where you focus on a problem and think how it is impossible to get out of it. But thinking is breaking the problem down and reasoning your way out of it to the next level.

  1. Corrupt and filthy intakes into the mind.

It is not possible to be a pornographic or movie addict and have a useful mind. In our days, people watch all manner of evil things in the name of movies. When your mind is focused on the things you watched in a movie, much space in your mind is taken. You cannot use your mind to constructively arrive at your future. Therefore, avoid corrupt or filthy intake. It chokes your mind from being productive.

Remember this: When you worry, you are combining the failures of yesterday with the challenges of today and the uncertainties of tomorrow.
