SEEK TO BE SANCTIFIED
MEMORY VERSE: “Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth” (JOHN 17:17).
It was William Ames who declared that, “Sanctification is the real change in man from the sordidness of sin to the purity of God’s image.” The word ‘sanctification’ means to be set apart for holy use. It also means holiness, righteousness, uprightness and purity of heart. When Adam fell into sin in the Garden of Eden, man inherited a sinful nature. This necessitated the coming of our Lord Jesus to deliver man from sin. Sanctification is usually referred to as the second work of grace whereby that inbred sin, the Adamic nature, is removed from the heart.
At salvation, outward sins such as: lying, stealing, cheating, fornication, fighting and gossipping, are removed. However, the saved person still has an impure heart with tendencies for wrong ambitions, vengeful spirit, and self-centeredness. This makes sanctification necessary. To be sanctified, the believer must consecrate his life to God and ask in faith for the experience. It is an act of the Holy Spirit and it is instantaneous. The sanctified has perfect love for God and humans, devoid of impure motives. Get this experience!
