Take The Shot

“Although you were once small in your own eyes, did you not become the head of the tribes of Israel? The Lord anointed you king over Israel. And he sent you on a mission…” 1 Samuel 15:17-18

The greatest miracle of all time happened when Jesus stretched His body on the cross and conquered sin, sickness, death, and all of hell. Victory was won when Jesus was stretched out on that old, rugged cross between the nails. We have eternal life because Jesus was stretched. Jesus had incredible faith. He said, “I’ll go to the extremes of being uncomfortable on this cross, in anguish, so that they can have victory, so that they can have peace.”

When Moses stretched, deliverance happened. When the man with the withered hand stretched, healing occurred. When Jesus stretched, salvation happened. Sometimes, we need to challenge ourselves and go the maximum of what we think we can do, not stay at the comfortable minimum.

In Exodus 17, the Bible said that Moses was on the mountain and the Israelites were fighting a battle in the valley with another nation. And as long as Moses’ arms were stretched out, victory was won. But when he stopped stretching and started putting his arms down, the battle turned. And two men, Aaron and Hur, held up his arms and said, “We’ve got to keep you stretching,” because the miracle is not in the comfort zone. The miracle is in the stretch.”

Michael Jordan once said, “I’ve missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. Twenty-six times, I’ve been trusted to take the game-winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. That is why I succeeded.” Thomas Edison failed 10,000 times before he invented the light bulb. Albert Einstein had the label “mentally slow” put on his permanent school record. These history makers never allowed failure to stop them.

God wants you to go to the maximum of what He’s called you to be, not the minimum. Pray this short prayer today, “God, stretch me until I can be the maximum of what You’ve called me to be. I don’t want to leave this world and have things left on the table. I want to be stretched to the end. I’ll rest in heaven. Let my decisions stretch my family to a whole new dimension. For your glory, Amen.”
