Having An Attitude Of Faith

“But because my servant Caleb has a different spirit and follows me wholeheartedly, I will bring him into the land he went to, and his descendants will inherit it.” Numbers 14:24

Certain attitudes inherit God’s promises. Even though there are promises in your life, you don’t automatically step into them without the right attitude. When God gives you a promise, you have to believe Him over anybody else; you have to believe that no matter what happens, you are going to see His will be done.

One example of a person who had a radical attitude of faith was Joseph. Out of the three million children of Israel, very few made it to the Promised Land. Genesis 50:24-26 says, “And Joseph said to his brethren, ‘I am dying; but God will surely visit you, and bring you out of this land to the land of which He swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.’ Then Joseph took an oath from the children of Israel, saying, ‘God will surely visit you, and you shall carry up my bones from here.’ So Joseph died, being one hundred and ten years old…” Before he died, Joseph wanted to make sure that his bones were brought into the land that God had promised to his ancestors. He didn’t want the next generation to lose God’s vision for their lives. He was so convinced that his family was going to walk into the land of milk and honey that he wanted his bones to be buried there so that when his family came back there, they would all be together.

Caleb was another example of someone who had a great attitude of faith. God said in Numbers 14:22-24, “…all these men who have seen My glory and the signs which I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and have put Me to the test now these ten times, and have not heeded My voice, they certainly shall not see the land of which I swore to their fathers, nor shall any of those who rejected Me see it. But My servant Caleb, because he has a different spirit in him and has followed Me fully, I will bring into the land where he went, and his descendants shall inherit it.” Caleb was determined to follow God into the promised land, even if no one else would. After 40 years of wandering through the desert, Caleb was ready to fight for his promise. He wasn’t going to let anyone talk him out of it.

A third example of remarkable faith in the Bible can be seen in the woman with the vexed daughter. In Matthew 15, she begged Jesus to help her daughter, but Jesus reminded her that “It is not right to give the children’s bread to dogs.” But the woman did not give up. Jesus admired her tenacity and granted her what she wished. All she wanted was a crumb of Jesus’s power.

God is looking for people who will use and multiply whatever measure of faith He has given them. He wants to use people who are going to fight for His promises. Joseph, Caleb, and the mom in Matthew 15 all had an attitude of faith that refused to quit. They all serve as examples to us on how to carry God’s visions and promises with confidence and courage.
