Defeating The King Of Pride

“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin…” 2 Chronicles 7:14

Chapter 41 of the Book of Job describes the Leviathan spirit. This is a spirit of pride that can come against you and try to destroy your family, vision, and future. You may not think pride is something you need to deal with, but when examining this passage in Job, you will find four indicators that you allow pride in your life.

First, a spirit of pride will make you think you do not need to pray. Examine yourself today and ask, “How much do I pray and rely on God daily?” Lack of prayer is pride in your own strength and ability. You may think that your talent, education, and success qualify you to run your life free of God’s help, but this is a prideful mindset. You may have prayed and relied on God when you first started your business or vision, but now that it has grown, you may be starting to think that you no longer need God’s intervention.

Proud people don’t pray. And if you find yourself never praying for your kids, your marriage, or your job this may be one of the sure signs that a Leviathan spirit has a grip on your life.

Maybe you are suicidal, depressed, or defeated mentally and are refusing to ask God for help. The spirit of pride will cause you to try to fix things on your own instead of relying on God’s power. But Hebrews 5:7 tells us that “During the days of Jesus’ life on earth, He offered up prayers and petitions with fervent cries and tears to the one who could save Him from death, and He was heard because of his reverent submission.”

God wants you to have the same sweet, submissive, and humble spirit that Jesus had. Praying is a humble thing. Even Jesus, having all authority in heaven and earth, still relied on God daily in desperate prayer
