4 Keys To Wisdom

“For the Lord grants wisdom! From His mouth come knowledge and understanding…He is a shield to those who walk with integrity. He guards the paths of the just and protects those who are faithful to Him.” Proverbs 2:6-8

Proverbs 30:24-28 teaches a lesson from one of the wisest men to walk the earth. King Solomon said, “There are four things which are little upon the earth, but they are exceeding wise. The ants are not strong, yet they prepare their meat in the summer. The conies are but a feeble folk, yet make they their houses in the rocks. The locusts have no king, yet go they forth all of them by bands. And the spider taketh old with her hands and is in kings’ palaces.” Solomon said, “A wise person will seek to have the same qualities as these four little creatures because, if you obtain them, then you have wisdom.”

Today, we can still all learn from the wisdom of these “small things.” Referring to the spider, Solomon said, “She taketh hold with her hand and is in kings’ palaces.” The message of the spider is one of determination and perseverance. The spider will not be moved or let loose because she has made up her mind that she’s going to live in the king’s palace, and nothing’s going to sweep her away!

If you have a spider on your front porch spreading her web everywhere, you can go out in the morning and sweep the spider web away, but by the evening, that spider will have built another web. And if you tear that one down, she’ll be right back to build a third one. This persistence is what caught Solomon’s attention. He said (paraphrased), “There’s something inside of that spider that she will not let anything stop her from being in the king’s palace.”

Sometimes, people get caught up in trials, temptations, or tough times and quit. When this happens to you, remember the message of ‘the spider.’ When the winds of hardship blow you down, just get back up and get back to God. Look adversity in the face and say, “You can try to sweep me away with temptation and discouragement, but when it’s all said and done, I’ll come right back and rebuild, restore, and restart everything.”

The Bible says, “No weapon formed against me will prosper” and that “God will bless me, and keep me, and make His face shine on me.” Faith is not an emotion. Faith is grabbing hold of the promises of God and refusing to let go. Things can happen in your life that can devastate you, but you have to get the spirit of “the spider” and say, “I am determined to persevere and hold on to every promise God has given me!”
