Do Not Stay There

“Then the prophet Gad said to David, ‘Do not remain in the stronghold; depart, and go into the land of Judah.’” 1 Samuel 22:5 

In Mark 5, there was a man possessed by a legion (which is 6,000) of demons. He had a serious problem, and no one could help him. The community couldn’t even control him by chaining him up. But the moment this man encountered Jesus, he fell at His feet and was set free. The people found him sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed and in his right mind. What could God do for you if Jesus could do all this for that man in one encounter? 

God has an incredible future waiting for you. You cannot allow excuses and intimidation to tell you that you will never be free, never succeed, or never amount to anything. That is a lying spirit you need to bring under submission to Christ. In 1 Samuel 22, 400 broken men came to where David was hiding in a cave. They were in distress and in debt, and they feared for their future. They didn’t have answers, and their lives were spinning out of control. In Biblical times, if you owed money, your children could be taken to pay your debts. It was a serious situation. 

So, these 400 men with no dream got around a man who had a dream. David had been anointed to be King of Israel and had a close relationship with the Lord. If you get around the right people, they will stir up the gift within you. As all these men were in the cave, ready to give up, God sent a prophet to tell them, “Abide not in the hold…” He was saying, “I can’t make mighty men out of these guys if they stay in this cave.” 

If you are looking for an excuse, you will always find one. It’s time to allow God to destroy the false images that have taken up residence in your mind. Abide not in the hold. Face your fears. Fight for your dreams. Quit holding back. Stop running away and run to God, who can help you do all things. 

Those men in the cave became the famous mighty men of David who saw many amazing victories in their lifetime.
