4 Keys To Wisdom (Part 2)

“From the ends of the earth, I call to you; I call as my heart grows faint; lead me to the rock that is higher than I.” Psalms 61:2

In Proverbs 30, Solomon speaks of four little things on the earth that can provide us with great wisdom. A second little creature he talks about is “the cony.” The Bible says the cony is “a feeble folk, and he makes his home in the rocks.” The cony is very vulnerable, timid, and defenseless against predators in the forest. Because he can’t defend himself like a rattlesnake, porcupine, or skunk, he will instinctively look for a rock to hide in.

“He makes his home in the rock.” The message of the cony is one of habitation. David said in Psalm 61, “When my heart is overwhelmed, lead me to the Rock that is higher than I.” When you feel weak or tempted, remember the cony and make your home in the rock.

The Rock will protect you, preserve you, and hide you in times of trouble. Many people are hiding in a lot of different things. Some people hide in religion. Others hide in material possessions. They spend their health getting wealth. And then later in life, they spend their wealth trying to get back their health! You can get all the money and cars and live in the big house, but without Jesus, your life will be empty!

Solomon had it all. It took thirteen years to build his home. He had bricks made of silver, walls laden with gold, and beams made of cedar, and he sat upon a pure ivory throne. He had twelve chefs to prepare him the best of food. He had forty thousand chariots that escorted him on shopping sprees. He had 14,000 horses and ships in all the seven seas of the world. He had everything you can imagine, yet when he reached the end of his life, he said, “There was a man who had everything, and yet he had nothing. And there was another man who had nothing, and yet he had everything.”

Solomon learned that if you’re building your life, your dreams, or your home on anything other than the rock of God, it will not stand. You are not secure. Nothing can hide you but the Rock, Jesus Christ.
