Defeating The King Of Pride (Part 3)

“Lord, the God of Israel, there is no God like you in Heaven or on earth- you who keep your covenant of love with your servants who continue wholeheartedly in your way.” 2 Chronicles 6:14

Another “red flag” to look for when examining yourself for pride is whether you are keeping covenants. The spirit of pride does not keep covenants. The word of God is a covenant, and your marriage is a covenant. If you are not careful, you may allow pride to tell you, “You don’t have to follow the advice of some old, irrelevant book that your grandma used to read.” Pride may say, “The Bible is outdated, and I can live my life how I want to live it.” Pride may convince you that scientists have discovered the world’s origin in their cleverness and that there is no creator. Pride is the sin that sent the devil himself to hell.

The spirit of Leviathan or a prideful spirit may also tell you that you no longer need to put up with your spouse. The Pharisees asked Jesus why Moses, and the law said you could divorce your wife. Jesus told them that it was because of the hardness of their hearts. Pride will harden your heart towards your spouse. You will start thinking, “I don’t have to put up with this. I don’t have to stay with this one man or woman when there are better ones out there I can get.” Pride will make you think you do not need to keep the marriage covenant simply because you are ready to move on to another “new and exciting” relationship.

The devil uses three main weapons to distract us from God’s will: the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eye, and the pride of life. These are all distractions from your main purpose in life. God’s greatest commandment is to love your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength. Keep your promises to God because He will never break His covenant of love with you.
